AXELSEN & SON Aps was established in 1957 as a sole proprietorship under the name “Kaj Axelsen Leather Goods”.

The product range consisted solely of eyeglass cases, which the founder Kaj Axelsen himself designed and produced at night, and during the day sold and delivered to his customers.

The company grew rapidly, and by 1962, 23 people were employed in production. This expansion led to a reorganization of the production flow, and in 1965, a 650m2 factory was built. At this time, eyeglass cases were supplemented with other smaller leather goods such as wallets and pencil cases. All products were designed with the desire to create functional products in a classic design of uncompromising quality.

In 1970, the company was founded as Inter Leather A/S, and during the 1970s, the company pioneered in the eastern markets with retailers in both Hong Kong and Japan. To support trade in the new markets, an office was opened in Hong Kong.

Production peaked in the 1980s with nearly 200 employees in Denmark. During this period, Inter Leather A/S solidified its position as one of the leading manufacturers of leather goods in Scandinavia. In the same decade, Gert Axelsen, son of founders Kaj and Ella Axelsen, joined the company as junior director and later as owner of the company.

To honor and respect our company's long and significant history, we changed the name in 2017 to AXELSEN & SÖN A/S, a name with direct reference to the company's development over time.
In 2025, the name was adjusted to AXELSEN & SON ApS to create a more international and English-language reference.

We design and develop products in a simple, timeless, and functional design with uncompromising quality. We will bring the best from the past and update, design, and develop our collections with a more modern expression.
